Bethany Long

Bethany Long is a passionate and caring individual who is always seeking personal growth in her daily life. Bethany is a Data Collection Manager with Statistics Canada and has attained a Bachelor of Arts (Honors) degree from the University of Alberta and a Master of Arts degree from the University of New Brunswick. Bethany pursued a specialization in Political Science because she is called to understand the power relations that impact Canadian society and to understand her place in the world as a global citizen.

The focus of her research is primarily on interrogating the narratives, discourses and legislation surrounding sex work in Canada. This focus enables Bethany to question and consider the complexity of the history of marginalized social groups in Canada and to find practical, community, legal and policy-driven solutions to gender-based social issues. Since graduating, Bethany has sought employment opportunities that have honed her leadership, project management, professional development and administrative skills.

She was quickly promoted to a Data Collection Manager with Statistics Canada, where she works with multiple direct reports who are responsible to supervise geographically dispersed teams. Most notably, Bethany was selected to manage an innovative local hiring strategy in Nunavut, as she consistently demonstrates cultural awareness and a passion for engaging with Indigenous communities.

Bethany prides herself in coaching and mentoring those who report to her, so that they feel supported and engaged in their work. She finds incredible meaning in fostering a team environment that is collaborative, productive and, most importantly, enjoyable to be a part of. Bethany Long’s ongoing goal is to feel that she is contributing positively to the social well-being of Canadian society and helping to empower those around her.
